Professional experience : Bred fourteen OP cultivars and five hybrids in rapeseed-mustard crops. The development of canola quality cultivars of B. juncea (1 OP and 1 hybrid) and B. napus (3 OP and 2 hybrids) helped popularise the cultivation of canola napus and canola juncea in Punjab and adjoining states of India. Prebreeding research aimed at the architectural restructuring of brassica crops and mobilising alien genetic variation into crop brassicas Outputs included incorporation of determinate plant growth habits in B. juncea, B. napus, and B. carinata; development and molecular characterization of C-genome chromosome substitution lines; and several sets of alien introgression lines in Brassica juncea carrying alien segment substitutions from wild species for resistance to Sclerotinia stem rot, mustard aphid, heat, and salinity tolerance. Physically mapped alien substitutions using GISH/FISH probes and molecular markers. Synthesized alloplasmic male sterile lines of B. juncea/B. napus/B. rapa with cytoplasm from Enarthrocarpous lyratus and B. fruticulosa, and introgressed and tagged Rf genes from cytoplasm donor species. synthesised the first stable Brassica allohexaploid. Resynthesized B. juncea, B. napus, and B. carinata from related allotetraploids. Extracted B. rapa (AA) from B. juncea (AABB), which formed a diversity group, separate from natural rapa.Established germplasm diversity, heterotic gene pools, SNP-based linkage maps, and predicted candidate genes underlying key economic traits.
